1978 Kitchen Doubles in Size in Wilkes Neighborhood Kitchen Remodel

This 1978 Portland, Oregon home in the Wilkes Neighborhood was in dire need of an overhaul. To double the kitchen’s size, we eliminated the breakfast nook including the old sliding glass door, which we replaced with a five foot window. We added a peninsula to create bar seating and knocked out the wall between the kitchen and dining room. We also replaced the old slider in the dining room with new French doors that open up to the patio.

This wonderful client knew that she wanted blue “lantern” tile for backsplash. Luckily, Oregon Tile and Marble, (now owned by Bedrosians) just started carrying a collection called Provincetown that has the perfect lantern-shaped tile in a shade called Cape Cod Blue. Photos by Olivia Ashton.
