Victorian Kitchen and Powder in Richmond Kitchen and Powder Room Remodel

One of the biggest challenges in renovating older homes is being respectful to the original architecture and era. In this case, an 1893 Victorian one block off SE Division in the Richmond neighborhood of Portland was remodeled in the 1980s and to put it delicately, it was a botched job. But in whomever’s defense, the 80s were not a time of great ideas and execution in kitchen design.

Our main goal was to leave no trace of the 1980s remodel and restore the kitchen back to something that felt more in keeping with the home’s original bones. Our clients wanted an interesting, casual, functional, low maintenance, and not the least bit precious kitchen.

The powder room is tiny, but packs in some serious personality. My advice for most powder rooms is don’t be afraid to have a little fun.
